It takes a certain skill to offer your time to be one of our Befrienders. Hampton & Hampton Hill Voluntary Care offers guidance, support and training to help you gain all the skills needed to become one of our team.
Actively listening and engaging with people can be a very natural thing for many of us and we encourage each volunteer to bring their own personality to the role of being a befriender.
For this reason it is import that our Befriending Coordinator actively seeks to match the volunteer to the client so that they share a common interest and outlook as much as possible.
A local knowledge is helpful as this helps keep our clients connected to their community and hear what is happening around them.
As a result of some of our volunteer successes, clients have gained confidence and decided to engage with more local services.
